Join Linda Ann Vorobik, botanist and botanical artist, for an illustrated talk. There will also be a show of botanical art and hand-painted silks with 25% of sales donated to the Botanic Garden.

Join botanical illustrator Linda Ann Vorobik, for a workshop exploring the art and science of botanical illustration. Participants will enjoy what Linda calls “long dates with plants,” spending focused time observing, drawing, and painting material from the Botanic Garden. This is a 2-day (Sat and Sun) course, 9:30am - 4:30pm. Advanced registration is required.

Biologist, writer and artist and co-founder of the Bay Area Mycological Society Debbie Viess will provide a fun trip through the wonderful kingdom of fungi, followed by a mushroom walk through the botanic garden.

Inviting the sign language community to join Sarab Seth, the butterfly guy, for a free guided walk around the Botanic Garden in search of butterflies. Our checklist of butterflies recorded in the Garden currently stands at 41 species. What butterflies we see on our walks, and how many, changes over the season. At this time of year, it’s normal to see 6 or 8 species during a one-hour walk. Groups with especially good karma might see up to 10 species, if there’s good butterfly weather (sunny, warmer than 65 degrees, and not too windy). It is sometimes hard to get a good look with the naked eye. Please bring binoculars if you have them (close-focus binoculars work best). The happiest people at the end of the walk are usually the ones with binoculars.

The Regional Parks Botanic Garden is home to many native bats! Their sensitivity to habitat and climate disturbance makes them useful indicators of ecosystem health.  Dr. Chelsea Andreozzi spent 407 summer nights monitoring bats using ultrasonic detection equipment across a spectrum of forest management types and microclimates.

Join Dr. Andreozzi for an evening twilight bat walk in the Garden. The evening will consist of a brief classroom portion followed by a walk through the Garden with bat monitors. Meet inside the Visitor Center Auditorium at 6:45pm. Sign up for the walk.
