Among the important families you'll learn about are Lamiaceae, the mint family; Asteraceae, the daisy family; Liliaceae, the lily family; Rosaceae, the rose family; and Fabaceae, the pea family.

Glenn Keator is a botanist, teacher, and writer specializing in California native plants. He has been the principal teacher for the docent training classes at the Botanic Garden, and has taught at several venues around the San Francisco Bay Area. Dr. Keator has written several books, including many University of California Press titles: Introduction to Trees of the San Francisco Bay Region, California Plant Families, and Designing California Native Gardens (co-authored with Alrie Middlebrook).
