School Tour Request Form

Our trained docents lead tours through the Garden for school classes from preschools to 12th grade. The request must be made at least 4 weeks in advance. There is a maximum size of 30 students for school tours. You can choose one of our theme tours or tell us what you would like.

Group size is limited to 30 max and a required ratio of 1 adult chaperone for every 5 children. Transportation is not provided with this program.

You will hear back from the Garden Office within 5 business days concerning your tour request.

Tour Theme

General: Learn about the garden and its history. Explore California's native plants from different regions of the state: desert, mountains, coast, valleys, and islands.

Pollination: Dissect a California poppy, watch pollinators at work, learn how seeds disperse.

Sensory: Explore the garden with hands, nose, ears, and eyes.

Plant Adaptations to Habitat: See plants in a wide variety of habitats from desert to high mountains.

California Native People and Plants (90 minutes required): Offered only on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Grind acorns, wash your hands with soap root, and play the staves game.

Instructions: It is important that students have a snack before the tour so they will not get hungry during the tour. Directions: Starting place is at the West Gate to the Garden on Anza View Dr.
